Alot of Democrats who say they are in favor of gay marriage, don't vote for it in the privacy of a voting booth. People fear change.

I'm just happy to be not alone. I was the one of only two opponents of Gay Marriage in my HS classroom for Government. It sure was an interesting time of being lonely during this.

May surprise some of you, but I'm actually pro gay marriage. Their love, private life, etc. in no way affects my life. So why can't they wed? Equal rights for all!

Well Sam is right about something. I don't understand why anyone is against gay marriage.

One word: Tradition.
If we've lived 2000+ years without Gay Marriage.... why allow it?
I think it just comes to show God provides if the most liberal and non-religious state like Maine had a vote against Gay Marriage...

Gay Marriage to me is just, eh, well, I've never supported it. I don't have a problem if they are together but if they're MARRIED, it seems, uh, strange...

I have nothing against Gays when it comes to the military and a few other things.. they can be together but I don't agree with the word marriage... Big difference when the word Marriage is brought up.

Scottie, it seemed strange for a black man to marry a white woman back 30 years ago. Does anyone care now outside of a couple of racists?
And Roller, marriage? why does it sound strange? racist assholes were the ones who wrote the definition of marriage...

I don't see why there should be gay marriage. Why do you think God created the male and the female? So that they could marry, have sex, and continue generations! I don't have any problem with homosexuals being together, but they should not be unified.

People use religion to cover up their homophobic thinking when they vote no to gay marriage. Just as people 100 years ago thought it was wrong for a woman to vote or file for a divorce, etc. Gay marriage wouldn't affect you or your children. It's part of life. Get used to it. I gather it will pass sooner rather than later.

The people have put up a fight. Gay Marriage hasn't passed by the people's vote yet.... still surprised it hasn't. Just move to Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts or Connecticut if not Iowa....

It will take time. Why do you damn liberals always get mad at the conservatives for simply stating their opinions? If Roller and I are against gay marriage, then that's that. Whale, you can be in favor of gay marriage, there's nothing wrong with expressing your opinion!
By the way, you keep talking about things that happened 100 years ago. We won't be alive 100 years from now, when gay marriage is legal in all states. Just saying.
I'm not sure that all the people who vote against gay marriage are homophobic. Most of us are fine with them being together, just not "married."

Why should you have a say in someone's personal life? I'm just saying they should have the same rights as us. It isn't like they are getting a special previlege. And come on, many people use religion as an excuse to cover up being homophobic.

One word: Tradition. If we've lived 2000+ years without Gay Marriage.... why allow it? I think it just comes to show God provides if the most liberal and non-religious state like Maine had a vote against Gay Marriage... Tradition? Slavery was a tradition in the US. Not allowing women the right to vote was a tradition. Segregation was a tradition. Women being regarded as 2nd class citizens was tradition. Foreigners off the boat from Ellis Island being treated like 2nd class citizens was tradition. Roller, that is a dumb statement! And Scottie. The side against it gets blasted more because they are the ones not wanting equal rights for all citizens. You would be pretty vocal if it were your rights being trampled. Whale said it. Gays aren't looking for special previledges. They are looking for the same rights us heterosexuals have!

Still... the people didn't lie down and let this pass. God had to have been saying "No" if Maine and California (two very liberal states) still voted yes.

The North was against slavery, but they still hated blacks.

I think the Civil War was a small myth.... with the slavery thing. I don't think the South was all for slavery like our history textbooks say it is. Sure slavery was a controversy but sometimes I think when you win a war, you get to rewrite history and the north probably did that.

Yes, people do often use religion to cover their homophobia. But I don't get why we're comparing gay marriage to slavery? How can you compare the two? Homosexuals at least have freedom, they just don't get all the rights that heterosexuals do.
The majority of homosexuals aren't going to even want to marry, I think. And besides, homosexuals make up a very small percentage of Americans. Probably 98% of all Americans are straight.
