I think Dink is just too depressed or upset to argue about his Mets this year:p We have gotten into it a little bit over Pedro and a couple other things this year. And we'll see what happens during football season.

The Mets-Phillies rivalry is a rather young one. It's not a true rivalry that has been as big as today.
Giants and Eagles are in the same division, but I think everyone hates the Cowboys most. That's where the biggest rivalry is.

I'd definitely say I hate the Cowboys the most. They've been historically the most successful team in the division. Why do you think they stayed in the NFC East when the NFL realigned? They are the Redskins biggest rival, our biggest rival, and probably the Eagles biggest rival. Couldn't move them even though a team closer geographically would have made more sense. Our rivalry with the Eagles is pretty fierce too, especially since they've been good the last 10 years with McNabb.
And yeah, the Phillies aren't a historical rival of the Mets. The rivalry definitely peaked in '06 and '07 with them taking advantage of our collapses. They probably are my most hated MLB team right now though. Either them or the Yanks. It used to be the Braves, but that rivalry has cooled a bit lately. Although that is a more historical rival of ours.
I'm a pacifist too, so I really don't like to fight much over sports. I think it's stupid. I root for my team, you root for yours. If I win, GREAT! If you win, I'll tip my hat. I never understood why it's such a problem for people to let visiting fans enjoy the game in peace. After all it is just a game!
"Make love, not war" has always been my motto!

The only true rivalries (within the same league) in baseball are as follows:
Red Sox-Yankees (duh) Giants-Dodgers Cubs-Cardinals
Those are the three where it is huge. Everyone else makes the red sox/Yankees their rival and sometimes I make the Angels my rival.. but they really don't hate us.

I'd agree. Those are the three rivalries that have stood the test of time. Of course rivalries develop in pockets of time when two teams who play alot are really good, but they come and go. Those three have lasted throughout much of MLB's history. Good call Roller!
P.S. Can you believe Kigebert called the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry overrated? Probably the dumbest thing he's ever said.

I find the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry boring. Why? Because I hate BOTH teams equally and it's East Coast Bias.

I find it boring cause i don't like either team either, but you cannot deny it has a long and rich history. No rivalry has the starting point that one did; the sale of the Babe. Then the long curse while the Yankees inflicting the Sox with heartbreaking loss after heartbreaking loss. Then the 3-0 comeback by the Red Sox over the Yanks to break the curse... can't script a better rivalry... it's the best in sports! nothing comes close... nothing...

I can argue a few Soccer rivalries that are huge.. but no one has ever heard of them probably. I think the rivalry between Michigan-Ohio State has a big enough history too.
The Giants-Dodgers and Cubs-Cardinals Rivalries go back just as long as the red Sox-Yankees too.

Cubs have sucked forever and they have played very few meaningful games with the Cards. The Giants-Dodgers had many great battles when they both played here in NY (The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!), but haven't had many big battles in California. The fans still hate each other pretty bad though.
The Red Sox, while title-less for 86 years, always played big games with the Yankees and found new way after new way to lose. Then they had that unmatched 0-3 comeback. And no rivalry has the starting point this one does. The greatest sports figure ever in American sports gets sold from one team to the other, and then launches the franchise into the best in sports history while the other crashes from greatness. Remember the Sox won 5 titles, then sold the babe and the Yanks won 26 before the Sox ever won another. Crazy stuff.
And who cares about soccer. I'm talking american sports.

The Giants-Dodgers got history of playing spoiler and playing for the pennant. I can tell the fans still hate today even though AT&T park has toned the giants fans down a bit...
It is true red Sox-Yankees is most well known but I could care less as a fan of West Coast stuff. So Boring.

Red Sox-Yankees has always been big, but I feel it didn't become the enormous rivalry it is until recently.

Giants and Dodgers have played spoiler to each other a couple times, but that doesn't compare to playing games that are meaningful for both teams. The Orioles, Blue Jays and Rays normally play spoiler to the Yanks and Sox every year.

speaking on Oh Lord... The Giants losing in a walk-off grand slam sure hurt my roommate. He was listening to the radio call and all the giants fans on my facebook were just devastated. Was that worse than some of the Mets Collapses?

No. The Mets lost a 7 1/2 game lead with 17 games to go in 2007. Then a 3 game lead in mid-Sept last year. '07 was epic, '08 sucked after '07. Losing a bad game doesn't compare to prolonged collapses.

I agree that Ohio State-Michigan football is as heated a rivalry as there is. I'd even put it over Boston/New York for the simple fact that it's the last game of the year, National Title implications are on the line every few years, and they only get 1 game to take out their hate and frustration on one another, where as Boston/New York play each other all the time.

I agree with you Dink on one thing. That is your claim that no rivalry has the conception that Yankees/Red Sox had, but I think you think its the best rivalry because you live in NY.
However, there's no way to say this rivalry is bigger than that rivalry. At least the big ones anyway. If you live on Tobacco Road or are Dick Vitale, you'll think nothing tops UNC/Duke. If you live between Columbus and Ann Arbor, you'll think nothing tops UM/OSU.
I think Kiger is crazy to say Yankees/Red Sox is overrated, but I don't know if its the best. There really isn't a way to tell.

I still like the Dodgers-Giants rivalry seeing I'm part of that one. Obviously we all know UNC-Duke is crazy while SEC fans will always argue the Iron bowl is big. The Iron Bowl is no big deal to me seeing I could care less about those teams. I for some reason like the BYU-Utah rivalry. That one is really underrated.

Well.. when you guys play at KC as a "neutral" site, I can see why it's a hated rivalry. Cal-Stanford is a battle of the nerds! Two really smart schools.

Stanford fans are sore losers when it comes to The Play. They can't accept the defeat and can't admit it was a good play, they just complain saying that his knee was down (which it wasn't) and cry. I haven't seen even one Stanford fan give Cal credit for that play. Crybabies.
