Calipari says UK fans need to show respect to PitinoJohn Calipari wants Kentucky fans to be on their best behavior when Louisville and coach Rick Pitino arrive in Lexington for a non-conference game this season. He said he plans to instruct UK fans in the same manner as he did UMass fans when Rhode Island's campus experienced a gambling scandal in 1992. He warned the people who followed the Minutemen that if they did anything to embarrass the school, he would leave the floor and refuse to coach the game. Pitino, who led Kentucky to the 1996 NCAA championship, has been to Rupp Arena several times since accepting the Louisville job following the 2001 season. On his first trip there, he was badly jeered by fans, including one bearing a sign comparing him to famous traitors in history. The vitriol had dissipated in recent years, but there is the potential for renewed harassment following the revelation of the sordid details involving an extramarital affair that led to an alleged extortion attempt against him. Calipari said he will ask Kentucky fans to comport themselves respectfully during this year's Louisville game. www.sportingnews.com/college-basketball/article/2009-08-13/calipari-says-uk-fans-need-show-respect-pitinoOh well?

UK fans should show them respect for the coach who won them a title and almost two titles.

UK fans should show them respect for the coach who won them a title and almost two titles. I think UK fans have had much respect for Pitino over the years. I will forever give him the credit for getting us out of probation and back to prominence, but that doesn't give him a free ticket to do and act anyway he wants and expect me to keep kissing his butt. ....this doesn't mean I will show him disrepect. But as a person, I no longer have respect for him. I agree with Cal that fans should always act civil to all our guest (not just Pitino).

UK fans have a bad enough reputation as it is. I agree with Cal, that people should show a little poise and respect when the Filthy Cards come to town. What he's going through now has nothing to do with basketball, cut the guy some slack.

I just don't understand why UK fans hate every former coach, or at least that's what it seems like. It seems like they have absolutely no respect for Sutton, Pitino, Smith, or Gillispie, and if Calipari leaves you guys will probably lose respect for him! We deffinitely don't like Roy Williams at Kansas very much but he's really the only former coach that we've disliked. We love Larry Brown.

Wow this is ridiculous. I actually went to the Cal-Stanford game in basketball last year and all Stanford fans gave former Coach Mike Montgomery a standing ovation when he came out even though he coaches Cal.

The same thing happened at WKU Roller.. When Dennis Felton left WKU for Georgia and he returned to Diddle, he was given a standing ovation! Especially this past year when WKU beat Georgia. But I don't think Darrin Horn will get the same respect as Dennis Felton did. There was some bad blood when Darrin Horn left. That should be interesting to see, once South Carolina comes into Diddle!
